Marvel's Heavy Hitters
...put my pen to paper and drew some of marvels big hitters in one place.
There was no real composition, it was just tangential additions. IronMan and Caps sheild... I know... I'll try harder. sorry.

Daredevil
Have you been reading Mark Waid's Daredevil?! Why the hell not?! It's been so great AND it just so happens Chris Samnee is giving a masterclass in storytelling and line economy on art duties.
Do eeeeeet.
I drew Daredevil, and threw in a bonus Matt Murdock just fer kicks.

Ash
Haven't drawn Ash since high school! Crazy... But not out of nowhere.
Ran into Jimmy Palmiotti (one of Ash's co-creators, and a favourite writer of Jonah Hex ...some day I'll draw) at NYCC and he reviewed my work and had some inspiring words. Then today when I was doing my warm-up, this happened.

umbrella academy
It seems I FINALLY stumbled on "The Umbrella Academy."
Written by Gerard Way (of My Chemical Romance) and effortlessly drawn by Gabriel Ba
Really great books. Like most I'd assume, were wary of a rockstar writing a comic book, harboured low expectations and I was thoroughly impressed. This book tells stories quite like how I've wanted to, but was worried too much would be missing or lost on the reader (i.e. I would be writing for me only). I have a lot of my own stories that happen AFTER a big event and only hint at what happened, the idea of destructive/constructive reunions appeals to me I guess.
Anyway, it inspired a drawing.
Funny thing about this piece is there was no formal composition. I drew "The Kraken" (far left) as a sketch, which you can see is much more loosely inked and then just kinda filled the rest in.
Stay good.

The Walking Dead
Blazed through reading the very compelling and attention-vampire of a juggernaut title, The Walking Dead. Much better/different than the TV show. Charlie Adlard does pretty great, consistant, yet growing work. Inspiring constitution. And Kirkman, its wild the ebb and flow plots he'll find, the searching, self-discoveries of the characters, and the sacrifice of his own creations is pretty god damn amazing.
Careful if you start to read it. Cause you'll want to read it all, without stopping.

Swordsman: Monster Hunter
Just discovered Frank Stockton... and WOW. Has a blog here aswell.
His amazing star wars illustrations opened him up to me. I found this on his blog, and really... if you don't love this, I really don't have any patience for you. HA!
I'd suggest you check out his sequentials on his main page. Fantastic short stories with strong characterization and just... this ease of line and storytelling.
One of those short stories was Swordsman: Monster Slayer Part 1: Monster Revenge.
So then this happened...
(wonder if he's ever gotten swordsman fan art...) I throw some colours on after the weekend.

Sullivan's Sluggers
I created this as the kickstarter (go ahead and support it with a donation/pledge) had first gone up as a "go get em'" piece for friend Mark Andrew Smith, but it quickly tunred into a "holy moley, congrats on the out and out success of your kickstarter!" Pretty sure its the very first Fan art for Sullivan's Sluggers!
last I checked it was 354% funded. After only the first day. Good work gents.

Prophet Profit
Prophet
By: (w) Brandon Graham and (p) Simon Roy
Picked this up at my LCS and was pretty floored by it. Effortlessly filled with some great Sci-Fi ideas and a storytelling momentum that has me really hooked to faithfully follow each of the panels, and care about all the little details.
So I drew the titular guy. John... er... Prophet.

Ironmanning
Some "Ironman" pages I did for practice and exercise. Fun pages, VERY simple. Meant to merely show storytelling abilities. I chose the classic Marvel Ironman cause that's how I roll.

Seems like a million years ago that I drafted up the thumbnails for this, as it was part of my entry to a thing called "comic book idol" hosted at CBR. I recieved honorable mentions, but didn't get to compete in the full contest... and with good cause.
My intention was to show my potential, but they're a little too rough to be taken seriously... (can be viewed below). So I decided to complete this challenge I gave myself a lifetime ago and I'll post a NEW, completed page each day over the course of this week. So bookmark this, or just keep up with me on Twitter or FB for the updates.
Uncanny X-men
Drew this last night when I shoulda been sleeping. Pretty fast and loose actually.

Mike Allred's ever-enduring "Madman." Loved this and the X-statix. Mayhaps I'll draw them soon too.
This drawing, as quoted by Mr. Allred himself is, "PRIMO." That's a compliment... in all capitals ladies and germs.

Eric Powell's "The Goon" is a series published by Darkhorse Comics. It also could be the subject of an animated feature by David Fincher, should the stars align.

Gimme gimme some of that vampire money.
Realized I have alot of sequentials in development that can't be shown yet, so I thought I should do a few fun ones here and there.
It was just going to be quick page, in and out, thought I'd quickly sketch out a page as a warm up and move on, but as an artist I was compelled to dwell and add and change. And boy, I did just that. I can't really tell you where the idea came from, happened organically. Modern indiana jones pulls his vampire friend from a black tie affair and races to find a mysterious game-changer "macguffin" in the face of oblivion. Yeah. ridiculous.
The lettering is probably the worst possible job anyone has ever done.

It might be worth noting that I actually wrote/drew this BACKWARD. Meaning I created the last panel first and then composed a short story to get to that point. Working backward panel by panel crafting a little story. Strange, but true.

Wolverines
Bought issues 300 and 301 on a whim. Good enough stuff (I'm no wolverine snob). Haven't read any of the Jason Aaron stuff, but he likes to use chapters in that comic. A lot.
There was a fun sequence in 301 that inspired the bottom sketch. Wolverine gets blown up, and he emerges the smoke basically just a pile of angry bloody muscle and he regrows his skin and hair over the next page or two.
Silver Samurai having his sword behind his back as defense really makes no sense, but drew it nonetheless.

American Vampire
Scott Snyder's (writer) American Vampire, while I thought disjointed and simply a fun hodge-podge of a stories set in different american periods of history w/ vamps but is actually amazing, and it's turning into a well woven, non-linear epic saga. And its good. Very good. Raphael Albuquerque quite admirably draws almost every issue of the Ongoing series.
"Survival of the Fittest," my first exposure to Sean Murphy really kicked my drawing ass back in gear in the fall. I had already started drawing quite a bit, but there's this looseness to his work that is really compelling. He also probably draws the best boots in all of comics. Anyway his style definitely influenced my comic-drawing resurgence and the SOTF piece below. I probably drew it in like 20 mins. Drawn extremely fast and loose.
There's also a Travis Kidd sketch for good measure.

Hellboy
Kinda goes without saying, right?
But I'll say this much...
Mike Mignola, whom I've loved since Matt Flint sold me the "cosmic odyssey" mini-series back in like '94-95, created Hellboy. Most notably a film franchise, sadly, but also a fantastic comic-book series (or series') which has a sprawling lovecraftian universe protected by the titular character and the madcap team of off-the-fringe good-guys, the B.P.R.D. (a group that will make a future post for sure)

The Amazing Joy Buzzards
The Amazing Joy Buzzards are a band that travels the world solving mysteries and performing face-melting rock shows. After reading the book I did a flurry of sketches. Seen below.
Brought to life by the talented duo of Mark Andrew Smith and Dan Hipp. Mark has some fantastic all ages books out: Gladstone's school for world conquerors and The New Brighton Archaeological society. So does Mr. Hipp. Check out his fun, incredible, chemical-coloured and sometimes very poignant BLOG. He has this Empire strikes back image a few pages in that kills me.

New Art Blog
Needed a place to put all the drawings I do that aren't "New 52" related. As you'll see I do draw...more. Still very much comic-book related, but I'm sure a few classical pieces will show up now and then.
In the spirit of support, I'll link as much as I can to other creators and authors works that I may "cover" here.
Thanks for checking it out!
